GIRLS BASKETBALL SUMMER MEETING FOR PARENTS
Wed., May 4th at 7 pm in the Middle School Commons/Cafeteria.
This meeting for all current 3rd thru 11th graders and parents.
The meeting will cover:  
1. Summer Leagues  2.  Open Gym dates and tiems  3.  Summer Clinics    4.   Additional Basketball skill opportunities.

LAST CALL FOR SUMMER SCHOOL!!!!
Sign your children up for Summer School now. Deadline extended to May 13th.   Summer School has a new look this year.  The first change is that it will run 5 half days per week (M-F) except for the 4th of July week.  The second change is that Summer School will be June 20- July 21st leaving time in July for family vacations and coinciding with the Summer School program at our Middle/High School. Look in Peach Jar to find the application online and ready to print. 
6th graders will need to complete a Middle School Summer school application.
Tech Trek is coming Wednesday, May 25th
Tech Trek has been a tradition at the elementary school for many years.  It is a day when all our students and staff get out and walk our campus to raise money for technology and get excited about exercising while we do that.

Dates to remember:

Friday, May 6th - orders for Tech Trek shirts are due in the school office.  $8 per shirt (three of our students designed the shirt logo)

Monday, May 16th - student need to turn in their donation sheets and money for tabulation.
Raise $5 or more and win a Tech Trek bracelet, more prizes if more money is raised.

Literacy Night at Brown Deer Elementary
Come join us for a fun filled Movie Night themed evening.  All those who attend have a chance of winning a movie themed basket with many treats, take home a free book, enjoy popcorn and listen to an NBA player read his favorite book.

Time:  5:45 - 7:30 pm

Check Peachjar for the sign up sheet so we can plan for the fun!!!!  Information sheets went home with all students on Monday, May 2nd.  SEE YOU THERE!
Volunteers needed for the BDE Rainbow Soup Art Exhibit
Check "Peachjar" for a volunteer form.  We need volunteers to set up during the day on May 13th and take down the art on May 31st.  If you can spare a few hours please sign up to help now.
STATE ASSESSMENTS IN PROGRESS April 11th -May 13th
The state of Wisconsin assessment to replace WKCE and Badger State this school year is the Forward Assessment.  The Forward assessment will be given to grades 3-6 beginning with 4th grade, 5th grade and the Falcon Nest the week of April 11th.    A letter went home last week with all the testing dates on the back of the letter.  Third grade will start their testing the week of April 18th.  Grades 1-6 will do STAR assessments starting the week of May 9th.  It is extremely important that students arrive on time to school since once the assessments begin no students can enter or exit the room.  To help your children do the best they can do on assessments please make sure they get plenty of sleep, eat breakfast, bring healthy snacks and a healthy lunch.
Daddy Daughter Dance - Thursday, May 26th
Where: BDE  gym and cafeteria
Time:  6:30 - 8:30 pm  (no school on Friday,May 27th)
Cost - $20 for one dad and one daughter if purchased by May 15th, cost is $30 if purchased May 16th - 26th, each additional daughter is $5 .
Tickets on sale now.

Theme:  Mardi Gras

Ticket includes:  Souvenir mask, dance, dinner and  a photo opportunity to catch the magic of the night
Brown Deer Village "Eat & Greet"
The students of Brown Deer Elementary have been asked to sing at Brown Deer’s Eat and Greet on Saturday, June 4 at 3:00 p.m.  Mrs. Ford is hoping to get a large group of singers together to represent the school and perform four songs!  All students in 2nd-6th grade are encouraged to participate.  In order to prepare for the performance, she will hold ten before-school rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of May (May 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, 31 and June 2).  Rehearsals will take place in the music room from 8:00 a.m.-8:40 a.m.  If your child is interested in being part of the choir, please see Mrs. Ford for a permission slip.  Permission slips need to be returned by Thursday, April 28 in order to determine if there is enough interest in this event.  
New Student Registration Going on Now For Fall 2016
If you live in the Village of Brown Deer and have a child who will be 4 years or older by September 1, 2016 they are eligible to attend Brown Deer Schools. New student registration is happening now and we encourage all new students to register as early as possible so they are on our July mailing list and we can properly plan for them. Register at our Districts Administrative Offices, 8200 North 60th Street  between 7:30 - 3:30 M-F. Children must be registered by the parent or legal guardian with whom they live with.  You will need an original Birth Certificate for your child, Immunization Records, Parent picture ID.  You will also need to show a valid lease agreement or current mortgage statement and finally you will need to provide a second proof such as current month's utility bill, auto or house insurance statement.  If you have questions, contact our District offices at 371-6761.

We are not able to register new students who do not live in the Village of Brown Deer. For more information about non-resident students, please call 371-6772. 
MONDAY MORNING MEETINGS
Beginning on Monday, September 14 - every Monday will be indoor arrival.  This means that as students arrive at 8:20 they will be directed to enter the building - not the playground.  They will gather  for a "student" Monday Morning Meeting.

School Starts at 8:40 a.m. - students arriving by foot, bike or car need to be at school no later than 8:35 a.m.  If your child will be absent from school - call our
attendance line at 371-6820
School Dismisses at 3:50 pm - All students must be picked up by 4 p.m.  If you are delayed, please contact the school office immediately at 371-6807.

BDE FAMILY HANDBOOK - Information and rules to follow
Click HERE to read handbook.  Every family was given a handbook at conferences.  If you did not receive one ask for your child's teacher to send one home.  Additional copies are in the school office but feel free to print a copy from the website.
Student Absence Request Form
Any student that will be absent two (2) or more days of school (for reasons other than illness) needs to have a parent/guardian complete an Student Absence Request Form two or more weeks prior to the absence.  The form is submitted to the principal for approval.  Forms are available in the school main office.
BDE Students who Attend HS Sporting Events
BDE families are welcome and encouraged to attend HS sporting events.  Any Brown Deer Elementary Student who attends a High School sporting event such as a basketball game, must attend with an adult.  Students must be under the direct supervision of an adult at all times.  Unsupervised students or students that act in an inappropriate way may be asked to leave the grounds.  All elementary students must sit with an adult for the duration of the game.  We encourage students to be great spectators the Brown Deer Way.   GO FALCONS!!!!
